Over the last seven years, The Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) has been helping Basin Communities prepare for the impacts of climate change through its Communities Adapting to Climate Change Initiative (CACCI). The workshop component of this initiative has engaged Basin residents, local government (politicians and staff), and members of the business community and has focused on anticipating potential climate impacts, identifying vulnerabilities and developing adaptation options that will reduce the risk of negative climate impacts in the coming decades. A key element of this process had been communicating the science of climate change in ways that are both effective and easy to comprehend. The CACCI program has relied heavily on PCIC products such as the Regional Analysis Tool and BC Station Data Portal and has developed some innovative techniques for relaying this information to local government and the general public. These approaches are reviewed (and feedback will be encouraged) in order to improve these techniques for the next phase of CBT’s initiatives on climate change.
