Guidance

These maps are not forecasts of species distribution but are forecasts of the physical climate conditions preferred by these species. Soil conditions and other land uses are not accounted for so actual future vegetation cover and crop potentials will be different. Species interactions and rates of spread are not accounted for as well. Future cedar and oak distributions are likely overly optimistic as the speed that trees can die under poor conditions exceed the speed that they can become established in new locations. Species were used to visualize, for educational purposes, how changes of a few degrees in temperature can change our landscape and economy.
