Downscaled CMIP6 Climate Scenarios Now Available

Output from the newest generation of climate models participating in the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) is now available. These new models have updated representations of physical processes and will gradually supersede the CMIP5 output used in scientific research. As part of this, the Statistically Downscaled Climate Scenarios page on PCIC’s Data Portal now offers downscaled scenarios from CMIP6. These were made from the output of 26 global climate models participating in CMIP6 and use a statistical downscaling method developed at PCIC. The models were driven according to specified concentrations from three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs). The Data Portal page allows for the selection of any combination of models, SSPs and time period. This new data set is referred to as the Canadian Downscaled Climate Scenarios—Univariate (CMIP6), or Can-DCS-U6. The previous scenarios for CMIP5, Can-DCS-U5, are still available. More information on model selection and the statistical downscaling procedures used for these products is available from the page below.
