PCIC Director Speaks at Senate Meeting on Flooding

PCIC Director Dr. Francis Zwiers was recently called upon by the Canadian Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry to share his expertise on extreme climate events for a meeting on The British Columbia Flood and Recovery Efforts. Dr. Zwiers discussed estimates of the magnitude of November’s catastrophic flooding and explained how the scientific inquiry surrounding climate extremes is conducted. He also spoke on the likelihood of similar events in the future, how their associated impacts can be reduced through adaptation action, and the importance of cooperation between organizations from the local to the national scale in studying and preparing for climate extremes.
